Welcome to the world of the Mojo men. Formed in 2001 with the sole ambition of becoming an antidote to all the fake so called R&B stars that proliferated the charts, (and sadly still do). With a keen eye firmly planted upon the British blues explosion of the mid 60's, groups like The Yardbirds, The Animals, Them and John Mayall's Blues breakers offered an obvious template for the gritty, honest and rousing style of Mojo Walk. Although the group largely play cover versions they could hardly be called a 'tribute' band. Instead of rolling out hackneyed standards akin to any workaday pub outfit, the Mojo's scour blues' lesser known archives for long since forgotten gems such as Gene Vincent's Birdoggin', and The Brand's I'm A Lover Not a Fighter. Offering a set crammed with strangely familiar surprises, in fact one of the most common questions after playing, say, a Willie Dixon tune is "have you written anymore songs like that?!". Then there's the performance. Although the band is way past that first flush of youth every member of the Mojo's is a showman. Be it Alan Munro (vocals) flailing about the stage like a man possessed, John Miller (guitar) with a manic slide sound that could stop a charging rhino in its tracks, or Shuggie's (harp/guitar) rhythmic harmonica and yellow wellies (I jest you not!). There's always something going at a Mojo gig. Their set is adaptable to both the large and small stage. In the last year they've played most of the major Highlands venues, including Eden Court, and a prestigious support to the Holmes Brothers across the North. Regular festival appearances such as the Wester Ross and Highland events have increased the groups profile with dedicated fans making a 200 + mile journey to their hometown (Ullapool) 'end of year' bash. Early in 2003 the group made a 'live without an audience' recording, 3 tracks of which you should have enclosed with this pack. Revenue from shows throughout 2004 will provide Mojo Walk with their first official recording to be released later in the year. Mojo Walk Contact:- Keith Whitham 3 Latheron Lane, Ullapool, Highlands.
